Select a quiet and comfortable space where you can drum without distractions or disturbing others. Ideally, this space could be well-ventilated with enough room for yourself, your drum of choice and any necessary equipment.
Visualise what it could look like – your perfect space, add your personality in this room. It could be candles, incense, maybe flowers or spiritual belongings?
2: Define Your Goals
Drum therapy can be used for a wide range of therapeutic goals, including stress management, emotional healing, trauma recovery, self-empowerment and personal growth. Sit down write what you would like to accomplish on your healing drumming journey.
Start by identifying what you want to achieve for wellbeing. Be specific about your short-term and long-term goals.
For example:
Short-term: Learn specific healing drumming rhythms that sooth the mind, body and spirit, play-along to healing music and songs to build confidence, rhythm and listening skills, or improve timing and groove for more complex rhythmic making?
Long-term: Join a drum circle to connect with like-minded souls, perform with others, become a sound healer to help others on their healing journey, master improvisation for total freedom and empowerment?
